Wallpaper

When it comes to wall coverings, many people go straight for paint without exploring the immense selection of wallpaper available today. Wallpaper is a modern and easy way to add complicated pattern, stunning texture, and a variety of color to any space. Our team at Carlos Interiors, Inc., we’d love to show you how wallpaper can work for you and assist you with creating a perfect accent wall or look for entire rooms.

Wallpaper Can Make a Statement (Or Not)

One of the things we love the most about wallpaper is the myriad of options available. With so many patterns, colors, and textures to choose from, your imagination is the only limit for your walls. You can use bold, colorful wallpaper for rooms where you want to make a statement and more subdued hues and patterns in others.

Everyone wants an attractive home but not at the expense of your personal style. How often have we all heard, “I love your paint color! We have the same one in our family room,” and felt decoratively defeated? When choosing a wallpaper for your walls, you can guarantee the look will be uniquely yours and uniquely changeable.

A More Practical Wall Covering

Giving your home a fresh look is fun, but there’s a lot to be said for a DIY project that won’t consume too much time or require special skills and materials. Wallpaper doesn’t require you to move all the furniture from a room to prevent unintended spills and drips. Brushes, rollers, pans, and drop cloths? Nope, you don’t necessarily need any of those.  It also emits less odors and VOCs common with many paints, so you can be a weekend warrior without having to wear a mask to protect your lungs.

Wallpaper is like the crockpot of wall coverings; set it and forget it. Once hung, your wallpaper will last many years without needing to be touched up or refinished and will not chip or peel the way paint can.

When it comes to cleaning, wallpaper comes out on top once again. If you notice a smudge or spot on your wallpaper, you can simply wipe it away in most cases. On the other hand, paint can lose some of its color and finish and develop unappealing shiny spots if it is wiped too heavily or too frequently.

Small Spaces, Big Patterns

What happens if you find a wallpaper you love but are concerned the pattern is too bold or busy for the small space it’s intended for? You create an accent wall, of course. Exotic prints can be placed in arches or recesses to create a focal point without overwhelming the senses. You can also mix solids with patterns or textures to create an exciting aesthetic that isn’t over the top but is not dull. Attractive prints can double as art when used as accents, and textures can add an element of effortless luxury to a space. You can also make a narrow room appear wider by choosing a wallpaper featuring horizontal patterns.

When Matching Matters

It’s vital to know the “match type” of your chosen wallpaper before starting your papering project. The match is how patterned wallpaper aligns when hanging separate strips. Some types will require different prep work or more skill than others. There are three types of matches to know:

  1. A free match is the easiest type of pattern to work with. The design is not meant to match up when being hung.
  2. Straight match patterns will always line up at the same height, so this match is easy for beginners to master.
  3. Other patterns have an offset match type. This means the design on each strip of wallpaper will be offset by half of the pattern’s height.
